Today was Alaric’s birthday party, although he doesn’t turn 13 until Monday. Yes, THIRTEEN. As of Monday I’ll have a TEENAGER in the house! Not as though he hasn’t already been acting like it, but next week it’ll be official.

He decided to have a “Weird Al” theme for his birthday party. He invited some of “the guys” over from his class at school. His invitations said “Come party with Weird Al,” and it could have referred to the guy or to ALaric being weird. :-) They watched UHF and had a couple of “activities” based on the movie.

One was eating “twinkie wiener sandwiches.” Taken right from the movie, you start with a twinkie, which you flip over and cut lengthwise down the center, forming a kind of bun. Place a raw hot dog in the “bun” and take a can of “Easy Cheese” and lay a big old line of it down the hot dog. Their contest was to see who could eat the most, with the winner getting their own copy of the DVD. They didn’t even have to dip it in milk like Weird Al did in the movie. :-P The boy who won ate one and a half.

One of activities kids did in “Stanley Spadowski’s Clubhouse” was trying to find the marble in the oatmeal. There was a big kiddie pool filled with oatmeal and several people trying to find the marble. We replicated that as well, using a couple of snow disks (for sledding) filled with oatmeal (gotta be squishy) and having them use only their feet to find the marbles. Whoever found the most marbles got a “Stanley’s Gift Pack,” which was an oatmeal canister (hmmm… I wonder where we got THAT) filled with things that Stanley used on the show. Quite fun!

All in all, the boys had a great time. After all, what kind of 13-year-old boys don’t like a little “grossout” action? :-D
