Looking for another way to tell how fast your internet connection is? I was just clued into a new site this morning. Speedtest.net is a nice and easy way to test your upload and download speeds. Just click on the server that’s closest to you and it runs a little test to check the speeds. This morning, from work on campus, I’ve got 1408 kb/s download speed and 2596 kb/s upload speed. That’s pretty good, but I bet it slows down as more students get online today.

One nice thing is that SpeedTest.net runs on PHP, not on Java (like InternetFrog). But then, InternetFrog gives you a gauge showing you where dialup, DSL, Cable Modems, T1 lines, etc., rank in speed and places your test results on that gauge. With SpeedTest.net, you get something like this:
