For musicians, the Christmas season is typically the busiest time of the year. Lots of people, groups, and parties want live Christmas music for their entertainment. So besides any self-inflicted Christmas concerts where you play your repertoire for an audience that comes to hear you, you also end up playing as background music or after-dinner concerts for various gigs. As of tonight, I’m just about done. Seems like there’s always that “one week” and this was it. 8 concerts in 10 days. Not tremendously bad, not even as bad as last year when I was in two different handbell ensembles, but still really busy. Now there’s just one more evening next Friday and then I’m subbing for another group for a concert the following Sunday. It’s always fun to play Christmas music everywhere, but it’s also fun to be done and look at having free time again.
Tonight they had a Polar Express theme to the dinner and decor. While that was nice, it made me think back to when I got to play handbells at the world premiere of the movie (blogged about it) and I thought tonight was kinda cheap. But of course, that WAS a world premiere and a really big deal. I’m marking it down to a terrific and unique experience and trying not to think less of other versions happening down the road.
