Well, yesterday was Halloween and I had to work in the library at the Reference Desk until 10pm.
I wore some of my medieval garb. Always an easy thing to fall back on. At least when you have outfits at home in your closet.
In honor of the holiday, here are a couple of my favorite Halloween CDs:
Chiller - A variety of (mostly) classical pieces performed by the Cincinnati Pops and directed by Erich Kunzel. Lots of great songs on this CD and the Cincinnati Pops is always good for this kind of music. Some favorites on this CD include: Overture to The Phantom of the Opera, Danse Macabre, Funeral March of a Marionette, and some movie themes.
Halloween, by Mannheim Steamroller - This is a 2-CD set, with music on the first disc and sound effects on the second. Not too scary on the music, and there’s still definitely a “Mannheim Steamroller” feel to it. Still, it’s fun and Halloweeny. There have been some bad reviews, but I still like the CD. It’s Autumn/Halloween music with a Chip Davis feel. Favorites: In the Hall of the Mountain King, Rock and Roll Graveyard, All Hallow’s Eve, and Harvest Dance. Oh, and Rite of Twilight, which combines the Twilight Zone theme and part of the Rite of Spring.
Very Scary Music: Classic Horror Themes - Theme songs from some scary movies. Some excellent choice, although I’d have to add the theme from The Omen as one of the creepiest movie themes of all time. I don’t actually own this CD (like I do the other two listed above), but that’s because I’ve built up my own collection of these songs over the years and made my own CD instead.
