You may have noticed that my blog posts have been sporadic the last couple of weeks. I’ve been on vacation in Phoenix, visiting my family. It’s been a good time and we’re ALMOST done. Almost, because we’re still sitting in the airport (Sky Harbor Airport–cool name, isn’t it?) waiting for various things.

Our flight was supposed to leave at 4:55pm, but the plane was supposed to come from Los Angeles and its flight was delayed because of problems with their system.

Last night there was a pretty big duststorm/thunderstorm that moved across Phoenix. The news helicopter that was flying in front of it said that the wall of dust at the front of it was almost 5,000 feet high! The picture I’ve included here is NOT from that storm, but from a smaller one a couple years ago.

They said that tonight we could expect something similar. And it happened. If our plane hadn’t been delayed, we would have beaten the storm and gotten in the air before it all hit. Instead, the weather in Phoenix caused the plane in LAX to be held on the ground. Several others in other cities were also delayed like ours. There are at least 17 planes out there that are waiting to take off.

It’s now 6:55pm (2 hours after our flight should have gone) and we were just told that our plane is now in the air. It’s a 1-hour flight to Phoenix, and then another, what, half hour for disembarking, cleaning, and finally allowing us on. That would get us out of here just after 8pm Phoenix time (over 3 hours late).

Looks like we won’t get home until after 2:30am tomorrow morning!

It might not be the most auspicious way to end a vacation, but it will sure make me glad to be home!
