The 21st named storm of the hurricane season has formed, tying the record for the number of storms in one year since recording them began. Her name is Wilma and she’s the last of her kind this year. The namers of hurricanes skip the letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z, so if another storm comes along this year (which could happen, since the Atlantic is still pretty warm and can be into November), they will start naming the storms with letters from the Greek alphabet. So the next one would be called Alpha, just plain old Alpha. That’s never happened in the 60 years they’ve been naming these storms.
