This afternoon I found another cool word-related website: Allwords.com! It’s not just a dictionary-type site, but has tons of resources on everything related to words!

You can use the basic interface, which is right at the top (unlike other dictionary-style websites), to look for words starting with, ending with, containing, or matching whatever you type in. At the same time, you can even have it translate your results into Dutch, French, German, Italian, and/or Spanish. And your search language can be any of those as well!!

On top of the terrific dictionary-like function, there are tons of great links to things like: book stores, crossword puzzles, dictionaries of all kinds, etymology, humor, names, quotations, slang, translation services, word games, and writing tools!

This is DEFINITELY a “Must-Bookmark” site! I think once you use it very much, you’ll like it so much you never go back to your “old” dictionary website! :-D

Did you know that the first capital of the United States was New York? Yup, on this day, back in 1788, New York was made the capital of the U.S. That was the year that we went from the Articles of Confederation to the United States Constitution, also. Washington, D.C. wasn’t even founded until 16 July 1790. In 1800, the capital was moved to D.C., so for twelve years the United States capital was New York.

FYI, if it were to be moved to the geographical center of the country, though, it would be in Lebanon, Kansas. At least if you only base it on the lower 48 states. If you include Alaska and Hawaii, the geographical center is just west of Castle Rock, South Dakota!
