Let’s have quick little refresher course on what’s supposed to happen at a four-way stop. This goes for 4-way stop signs as well as flashing red signals. Oh, and also for stoplights that are out for some reason; those are supposed to be treated as four-way stops.

If you’re the only one there, you come to a complete stop, then proceed on your way.

If more than one car is there, you proceed in the order you arrived.

If more than one car arrives (meaning “comes to a complete stop there”) at the same time, the car to the right has the right of way. That’s the law. It’s not difficult. If three cars pull up at the same time, the one on the far right shouldn’t be sitting there with her hands up in the air saying, “Well??”

If there are only two of you and you’re opposite each other, then nobody’s really to the right of each other. In that case, straight thru and right turns have the right of way.

If four vehicles all arrive at the exact same time, the one with the right of way is the pickup with the gunrack inside and the bumper sticker that says, “Guns don’t kill people, I do.” :-D
