President Bush signed an energy bill this week that, among other things, will extend Daylight Savings Time by 3 weeks in the Spring and 1 week in the Fall. This will be taking effect in 2007.
So next year Indiana will be joining the rest of the world in observing Daylight Savings Time (although we don’t know which time zone we’ll be in yet), and then the following year we’ll be changing the start and end times for that observation. Let’s just get everyone used to the idea before we switch it on them again.
Another thought: they should come up with a different name for Daylight Savings Time. Especially after 2007, DST will be the norm, not the exception. We should have a name for the winter months that fall BACK an hour instead of a special name for the 8-9 months that move forward an hour.
